‘Uggies’ is Australian slang for a pair of sheepskin boots, the iconic ugg boot. Originating in rural Australia in the 1920’s, sheepskin boots were initially worn for practicality over aesthetics. By the 1960’s they were being worn by Aussie surfers and by the mid 1970’s had found a place in surf culture globally.
The Chapell family have been involved in the surf industry of Western Australia since the mid 1990’s, operating multiple surf shops over 25 years. It was in these stores that the family recognised the difficulty in sourcing genuine 100% Australian boots and slippers made from premium grade sheepskin, despite the number of Australian designers and manufacturers creating quality product.
‘Aussie Uggies’ is dedicated to making it easier for consumers to find high-quality, 100% Australian-made sheepskin boots. Our Uggies are made to order by highly skilled, independent bootmakers across Australia, using premium merino sheepskin, sustainably sourced and ecologically processed in Australia. Genuine sheepskin products are now all in one place.
